I started People Problems Co. because small and growing companies keep hitting the same wall: too much HR to ignore, but not enough to justify a full-time hire. So founders and business leaders answer benefit questions, write policies at midnight, and hope nothing goes wrong. I give you an experienced HR partner for the hours you actually need.
I'm especially interested in solving people problems and building workplaces where people thrive. My specialty is making HR practical, approachable, and useful. Good HR and People Operations shouldn't create bureaucracy for the sake of bureaucracy. It should solve real business problems, give managers better tools, create a better experience for employees, and pave the way for your business to thrive and grow without everything breaking.
I would love to help your business and resolve your people problems!
Hi, I'm Jaime
People are complicated. HR doesn't have to be.
For more than eight years, I've been a one stop HR shop. I have experience building and scaling HR programs for growing, distributed, and global organizations. I'm the person companies bring in to build HR from nothing and the person who manages all things human. I've been the first People Operations hire, the person brought in to create structure where there wasn't much, and the one managers call when the answer to an HR question starts with, "it's complicated" or "it depends."
My work sits at the intersection of people, operations, and business strategy. I've built performance programs, managed multi-state and international HR operations, coached managers, redesigned policies and handbooks, overseen payroll and benefits, implemented HR technology, supported employee immigration, and helped organizations navigate the complicated situations that inevitably come with employing actual humans.
My approach is simple. I automate what should be automated, like compliance tracking, reporting, and paperwork, so there's time for what matters: welcoming new hires, guiding leave conversations, and helping managers through he hard moments. Those are the moments people remember.
I help keep human moments human and keep your business operating smoothly. The best HR and business ops go unnoticed because they pave the road people walk. They don't notice it's there, but they struggle when it's not. I'll take on the HR and people problems, you focus on the other parts of your business.
Mission
To make HR simple, human, and practical for companies that have outgrown doing it on their own.
I help organizations create practical People practices that make work better for employees, managers, and the business.
Vision
Workplaces where people are supported, managers are confident, and HR is never the hard part.
A world where good business and good people practices aren't competing priorities. Where organizations can grow without losing site of the humans doing the work, and employees can succeed without sacrificing their well-being to do it.
Values
People First
People first, not people only. Consider the humans and the business. People are the center of every workplace, but good HR has to work for the business too. I consider the human impact of decisions while recognizing that organizations have goals, constraints, responsibilities, and results to deliver.
Practical
Build things that people actually use. The best People solution isn't the one that looks impressive in a presentation. It's right-sized HR that fits how your company actually works, that employees and leaders actually use. I favor thoughtful, usable solutions over unnecessary complexity, HR theater, and "best practice" copied without context.
Context
Context matters. I approach problem-solving by understanding before prescribing. There is rarely one HR answer that works everywhere. Good judgement starts with understanding the people, business, culture, goals, risks, and circumstances involved before deciding what comes next.
What you can count on
Clear, plain language, and policies people actually read. I'll give you honest advice with no jargon. You will always know where you stand, what's required, and what's optional.
Your people problems stay between us. Your company information and people problems are confidential. The information stays with the people you authorize and are not used with any other companies.
I'll tell you what you need to hear, including when you don't need me. I'm your trusted advisor, I'll tell you how it is good, bad, or weird. You'll get honest feedback shared kindly, with your business and your employees best interests at top of mind.
Knowing when to follow the playbook and when a situation needs a human touch. Asking the right questions for context to your unique situation. I factor in the human element and your business needs to find the right approach for you.

I build people operations that support both employees and the business as they grow. My experience includes evaluating existing HR practices, identifying gaps, creating scalable processes, developing policies and programs, and connecting people initiatives to broader business goals. I’ve built HR infrastructure from the ground up, supported rapidly growing organizations, and helped teams move from reactive HR to thoughtful, sustainable people practices.
I’ve served as the primary HR partner for organizations and leadership teams, owning both day-to-day HR operations and larger people initiatives. My experience spans employee relations, organizational planning, workforce changes, policy development, employee engagement, leadership advising, and building HR functions in environments where there wasn’t an established playbook. I’m comfortable moving between strategic conversations and the practical work required to make those decisions successful; all as a one-person department.
I help organizations understand what they need to have in place—and uncover what may have been missed. My experience includes multi-state and global employment compliance, handbook and policy reviews, personnel documentation, I-9 and employment eligibility processes, required training, leave and workplace requirements, and HR compliance audits. I’ve also helped organizations prepare for and navigate ISO and CMMI audits, as well as investor due diligence and readiness reviews. My focus is on building practical, well-documented processes that stand up to scrutiny and make ongoing compliance easier to maintain.
I’ve selected, implemented, transitioned, and optimized HR systems across payroll, benefits, HRIS, performance management, recruiting, equity, and documentation. My experience includes assessing vendor options, migrating employee data, coordinating implementations, documenting processes, training employees and managers, and identifying opportunities to streamline administrative work. I ’ve also led vendor changes that improved operations while generating significant annual cost savings.
I design performance management processes that give employees clarity and help managers have better conversations. My experience includes building structured review cycles from zero, defining competencies and expectations, creating performance documentation, supporting goal setting, coaching managers through difficult performance conversations, and managing performance improvement processes. I’ve implemented programs that increased employee participation and achieved 100% on-time review completion.
I’ve developed programs designed to strengthen connection, communication, recognition, and engagement—particularly in remote and growing organizations. My experience includes employee surveys, recognition programs, team-building initiatives, internal communications, learning opportunities, and strategies to improve the overall employee experience. I use feedback and engagement data to identify what employees need and turn those insights into practical improvements.
I’ve managed compensation and benefits programs from both an operational and strategic perspective. My experience includes benefits administration, open enrollment, payroll support, salary reviews, market benchmarking, compensation planning, vendor evaluation, employee education, and navigating benefits across multi-state and international workforces. I focus on creating programs that are competitive, financially responsible, and understandable to employees.
Great HR practices depend on managers knowing how to use them. I coach managers through performance conversations, employee relations issues, feedback, documentation, team dynamics, hiring decisions, compensation discussions, and difficult workplace situations. I’ve also designed and facilitated leadership training for both new and seasoned managers, helping them strengthen communication, decision-making, accountability, and people-management skills. My approach is practical and collaborative: helping managers understand both what they need to do and how to handle conversations in a way that is clear, fair, and human.
My experience extends beyond traditional HR into the operational work that keeps organizations running. I’ve supported office operations, vendor management, budgeting and cost analysis, internal communications, process documentation, security and administrative programs, and cross-functional initiatives. I’ve also written business proposals and drafted and managed contracts for new employees, sales teams, and vendors. That broader operational perspective helps me build HR solutions that work within the realities of the business rather than in isolation.
I’ve managed recruiting from workforce planning through offer and onboarding, including balancing up to 25 concurrent openings at once. My experience includes developing job descriptions, sourcing and screening candidates, coordinating interviews, partnering with hiring managers, improving selection processes, managing candidate communications, and supporting offer negotiations and onboarding. I focus on creating hiring processes that are organized, efficient, equitable, and reflective of the company’s culture.
I support organizations through the people challenges that require judgment, consistency, and careful communication. My experience includes employee concerns, workplace investigations, performance issues, policy interpretation, conflict resolution, documentation, terminations, and other sensitive employee matters. I focus on helping businesses address issues fairly, thoughtfully, and with the right level of documentation and follow-through.
I’ve built HR functions from the ground up twice, so I know how to quickly assess what’s in place, identify what’s missing, and prioritize what needs to happen first. My experience includes evaluating current practices, recommending the right tools and systems, creating policies and processes, implementing HR infrastructure, and building repeatable workflows that can scale with the business. I’m comfortable stepping into environments with little or no formal HR structure and turning ambiguity into a practical, organized people function.
I’ve designed and managed onboarding and offboarding programs that create a consistent, organized employee experience from the first day through the final transition. My experience includes preboarding, orientation, HRIS and payroll setup, benefits enrollment, manager coordination, documentation, equipment and access processes, knowledge transfer, exit procedures, and improving the overall flow of the employee lifecycle.
I’ve supported employees across multiple U.S. states as well as international teams, navigating the additional complexity that comes with distributed workforces. My experience includes multi-state compliance, international employment operations, EOR relationships, payroll and benefits coordination, immigration processes, policy considerations across jurisdictions, and maintaining a consistent employee experience across locations.

On a personal note...

I live in the Washington, DC Metro area. When I'm not solving people problems, I'm a proud dog mom and happiest spending time with my two rescue pups - Jax and Rocket whether we're hiking, playing, or cuddled up on the couch. My love for dogs extends beyond my own, I also foster and volunteer with dog rescues when I have time.
When there aren't dogs involved, you'll usually find me with a good book, getting overly competitive during a board game, painting my own nails, planning my next trip, or continuing my ongoing quest to keep houseplants alive (I'm still working on that last one).
