Who I help
Startups & Growing Companies
You've raised money, you're hiring quickly, and HR has been living in the founder's inbox. That works until it doesn't: a payroll mistake, a hire in a new state, or a first difficult employee situation.
I've built the People function from scratch as the first People Operations hire at two startups. Mapping the lay of the land, charting a path forward, building policies and people program foundations that work for each business.
I'll do the same for you, sized for where you are now and ready for where you're going. Partnering with me gives you time to focus on what you do best, and offload the HR to an expert.
Common starting points:
-
Your first handbook and core policies
-
Hiring employees in new states
-
A performance process that doesn't feel corporate
-
Benefits that compete for talent without breaking the budget
-
Scaling your programs and policies for the next phase of business
Small Businesses
You have a stable yet small business. You're passionate about your work and an expert in your field. You have some HR needs; policies, payroll, benefits, the occasional inquiry, but don't need another full-time employee.
My speciality is small business. I've worked with a variety of small companies and understand your unique needs. You don't need bureaucracy, endless paperwork, or complicated processes. You need simple, trusted support that is customized to your business.
I'll be your trusted partner, everything you need, nothing that you don't. I'll be honest with my recommendations, help keep your business compliant and your employees engaged. I'll focus on the HR & People Ops, you focus on what you do best.
Common starting points:
-
A compliance check and review of your policies, making sure you have everything you need to be compliant without over engineering
-
Part-time expertise, too small to justify a full-time hire, but still need someone to call
-
A partner to call when an inquiry comes up, someone to handle the paperwork while you focus on your business.
International companies entering the US
The US has a few quirks when it comes to doing business. US employment law varies by state, benefits work differently than almost anywhere else, and your headquarters may not know what it doesn't know.
I was the first US HR hire at a UK fintech building it's American business. I set up its US People Operations, multi-state compliance, benefits, and managed their offices in New York and Washington DC, while working closely with the global team.
I'm a strong partner to have as you establish operations in the US. I'll review your business needs and help you establish the right policies to help you grow.
Common starting points:
-
Choosing a payroll provider, PEO or EOR
-
Designing US benefits and time off programs
-
US-specific policies and a US handbook
-
Compliance for each state where you hire
Remote and distributed teams
Every new state you hire in brings its own rules for payroll, taxes, paid leave, and required notices. Most growing companies find out the hard way.
I've built HR for a remote-first team across the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. I have experience managing compliance for all 50 US states. I'll help you hire anywhere, without the surprises.
Aside from different jurisdictional requirements, remote and distributed teams bring unique employee experience challenges. I'll help you build robust employee experience from onboarding through their last day so your team always feels connected.
Common starting points:
-
A compliance check for every state where you have employees
-
One handbook that works across states, with state-specific additions
-
Remote onboarding that feels personal
-
Policies for remote work, equipment, and expenses
